The Turn to Clay
"It wasn't my intention to make jewelry. Building large clay sculptures, as I had been doing, kept me happy and fulfilled. But one day, while gathering up bits and pieces of clay meant for the processing bin, I noticed unusual shapes on some of these scraps. I never let interesting shapes go by without giving some thought about how I might use them in my work. This was when the idea of jewelry — ceramic jewelery — sparked my imagination.
Ever since then, I have enjoyed the entire process of creating a necklace — from the forming of shapes to the glazing and firing; to the design and assembling of the components — to produce a one-of-a-kind wearable art."
